Nicole Koontz, LMHC, R-DMT

  • I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist. I specialize in generalized anxiety, depression, self-harm behaviors, attachment & trust, stress, life transitions, grief, relational challenges, systemic trauma, and desires for self-growth and change. I have extensive experience in various levels of care including adolescent residential care, emergency crisis response, partial hospitalization programs, and psychiatric inpatient care. I care for clients ranging from children, adolescents, to young adults and focus on creating a comfortable and playful therapeutic environment regardless of age.

  • I received a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy from Lesley University, as well as a Bachelor of the Arts from Kennesaw State University. I have received specialized training in motivational interviewing, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, disordered eating behaviors, support for those with intellectual disabilities and problematic sexual behaviors, and SMARTmoves. I am also trained in the ARC framework which focuses on processing patterns of attachment, gaining emotional regulation skills, and competency building in relation to self-identity.

  • I focus on combining the arts and therapeutic techniques to best support my clients. I foster therapeutic relationships through a person-centered approach. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy-based techniques to support clients in building therapeutic skills, and Expressive Arts Therapy interventions to explore the roots and impacts of one's life experiences. I utilize trauma-informed practices to build trust with my clients and hold space for individuals to connect with their inner child without fear of judgement.

  • If we begin working together, you will hear about my black cat Po’boy (who is actually a girl). I love dancing professionally with my local Boston contemporary company. In my free time, I enjoy reading poetry, going on walks, spending time with friends, and trying new recipes at home. Feel free to share your favorite songs with me! I love listening to all kinds of music, especially Taylor Swift.
